Our people: Lynne Golds
Lynne Golds has consistently taken on new challenges during her nearly 15 years at Deloitte. Most recently Lynne has been appointed a Director in Deloitte Private, where she is working with private companies in the Wellington region. Lynne talks to us about her work-life balance and how her previous role as Head of Finance in the Auckland office has led her to her new position.
How long have you been at Deloitte and what is your role Lynne?
I have been with Deloitte almost 15 years. I joined as the Financial Controller for Deloitte and as the role (and team) grew my role evolved into Head of Finance. Since around October 2017 I have been supporting the Wellington Private practice.
What is it you enjoy most about your role?
I really enjoy diversity, be that tasks, people or environment, so the opportunity to join Deloitte Private in Wellington has allowed me to meet a huge variety of people and businesses. Being able to use my skills to support and benefit these businesses is what is really exciting to me.
Your previous role was Head of Finance (based in Auckland) and your new role is a Director for Deloitte Private (based in Wellington). How did this change come about?
The opportunity arose in Wellington and now that I have a very capable team in Auckland running the internal Finance function, I was really keen to work with small to medium size businesses such as those in our Private client base. Deloitte management were very supportive and now I spend half my time in Wellington and half my time in Auckland.
What did you learn from your role as Head of Finance that's applicable to your new role as a Director for Deloitte Private? What insights do you have from your role as Head of Finance that would be of benefit to small to medium sized companies?
A lot of my experience fits nicely into the virtual CFO arena where I can help clients with a breadth of tasks across accounting, payroll, reporting, budgeting and forecasting, team structures, system and process integration. I've had so many opportunities across the finance function at Deloitte and most of these are adaptable and scalable.
With working in both the Auckland and Wellington offices, how do you manage work-life balance?
By having a fabulous partner at home keeping the household running! I really enjoy Wellington for its people, culture and dare I say climate so coming here is a pleasure. Equally, I love getting back to Waiheke for a quiet weekend hanging with the family and walking the dogs.
